Text Editors

Here are soom good text editors:

Windows
Notepad++ [my favourite] – A simple but powerful notepad style editor. Includes syntax highlighting for all the major languages and the ability to input your own if not supported. Lots of small useful time saver features.
Arisesoft Winsyntax – A very basic PHP editor. Similar to windows notepad but with tabs, syntax highlighting and other advanced features.
Notetab – A Notepad clone with tabs and various other add-ons. Also works on OSX/Linux under WINE.

Linux
I wasn’t overly impressed with what I found on Linux. I’m now using the basic text editor that came with Ubuntu – GEdit.

GEdit – Very simple notepad style editor with syntax highlighting and integrated file browser. Also runs on Windows and Mac OS, apparently
Screem – This works fairly well and seems to be quite popular but the site management system seemed to be trying too hard and ended up annoying me more than it helped me.

More to follow, maybe.

Found one that’s better? Answers on a postcard, please.

Ah, yes. I’ve heard of it but I’ve never got around to actually giving it a go. Good is it?

Steep learning curve, but I would say well worth it. It definitely pays to be able to touchtype, as all the commands lie within the easy range of your fingers. No more moving your hand for right-arrow, left-arrow, home, end etc. That’s my favourite feature.
